Payscout Engages Congressional Caucus on Virtual Reality

Shaping the Future of Commerce: How Payscout Brought VR to Capitol Hill

Bridging the gap between technological innovation and public policy is crucial for progress. In a pivotal moment for the future of commerce technology, Payscout had the unique opportunity to visit Washington, D.C., to demonstrate the world’s first true VR Commerce solution to key U.S. policymakers.

This engagement highlighted Payscout’s role not just as an innovator, but as an educator dedicated to ensuring government leaders understand the landscape of emerging technologies.

A Landmark Demonstration for the “Reality Caucus”

A Payscout leadership team, including CEO & Co-Founder Cleveland Brown and COO Juan Sotelo, was on Capitol Hill to meet with the Congressional Caucus on Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality Technologies, commonly known as the “Reality Caucus.”

They conducted live demonstrations of their patent-pending Virtual Reality (VR) Commerce solution in the offices of the caucus co-chairs:

  • Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.)

  • Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.)

  • Rep. Bill Flores (R-Texas)

  • Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.)

  • Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.)

This significant meeting, which showcased the practical application of immersive commerce, was even noted in Politico’s Morning Tech tipsheet.

Why This Engagement Mattered

The Reality Caucus was formed to create a dialogue between Congress and the nation’s tech industry. According to their founding statement, the group aims to ensure policy encourages, rather than hinders, innovation.

“[The goal is] to educate our colleagues and others to ensure Congress is doing all it can to encourage – rather than hinder – these enterprising fields. We look forward to working with our colleagues…to help support innovation and address the challenges posed by this emerging sector.”

Payscout’s culture of innovation and education made it a natural fit to engage with the Caucus and provide a real-world example of VR’s potential.

Pioneering the First True VR Commerce Solution

The technology at the center of the demonstration was Payscout’s groundbreaking VR Commerce application. As the first of its kind, the solution enabled frictionless payments within VR experiences, powered by Visa Checkout. This marked the first time consumers could shop for and purchase physical products from within an immersive virtual world and have them delivered directly to their homes, a key step in defining the future of commerce technology.
