How Corporate Social Responsibility Partnerships Can Empower the Next Generation of Leaders

Forging a Powerful Connection for Youth 🚀
The story begins with our leadership’s mission to support public service. As proud UCLA alums, CEO Cleveland Brown and COO Juan Sotelo helped forge a key partnership. Specifically, they connected the Jefferson Awards Foundation (JAF) with UCLA.
Their shared goal was to expand a key program. This program, JAF’s “Students in Action,” empowers middle and high school students across Southern California.
From Partnership to Inspiration: The L.A. Sparks Step Up
As a result, this powerful collaboration caught the eye of another UCLA alum. Christine Simmons, then President and COO of the Los Angeles Sparks, took notice. Inspired by the mission, she decided to get involved.
Simmons delivered a motivational speech to students in the program. She left them with an unforgettable message:
“Never settle, don’t let anyone outwork you, and be extraordinary!”
Furthermore, her support didn’t end with a speech. Simmons surprised the students with a generous donation of 189 tickets to the L.A. Sparks’ home opener. This meant every student, advisor, and volunteer could attend the game.
A Day of Celebration and Empowerment
Ultimately, the event was a tremendous success. The students and volunteers had an amazing time. In short, they left the game feeling energized, inspired, and ready to continue their service journeys. It was a tangible reward for their hard work and a powerful reminder of their community’s support.
As the first L.A. Jefferson Awards Foundation Champion, we are so proud of these students. Their commitment to service is truly inspiring. In the end, we were thrilled to have played a part in this connection and witnessed how UCLA and the L.A. Sparks united to champion tomorrow’s leaders.
